I have a background as a cellist. I started teaching myself guitar a little over 3 years ago. I have had 4 instructors for cello, but, prior to James, none for guitar. I almost randomly scheduled a lesson with James. I had to be near his studio for a period of time and he had a slot open that would work. I remember my first lesson and what he suggested that I do. I’ve been taking lessons now from James for about 6 months. I feel like I have had a drastic improvement in my ability to play the guitar. I’m fairly comfortable now up and down the fretboard. At the time I started with James, I had been memorizing all kinds of scales and triads trying to become a better guitarist. I was using video lessons and YouTube. I was spinning my wheels. There is just so much you can learn on the guitar, but I didn’t know what to prioritize. I would say that I wasted most of a year. If I had come to James sooner, I would have improved sooner. He has kept me on the right path and I’m grateful for that.
If you are reading this and wondering if lessons from James will help you, you should give him a shot. I would have told my younger self to get lessons sooner. Of course you also have to practice A LOT. But make sure you are practicing the right things and sign up for a lesson with James!
